Ever since they released “Take Me Home” last year, everyone was expecting the world’s biggest boy band to again come up with some proficient new ideas to keep their fans eager and keen to appreciate the uprising and stardom they have acquired.
When the band members are boys who have just stepped out of the teenage bonds, growing up is always one of the themes of the songs. Taking a good look at “Midnight Memories” shows it doesn’t deviate from the theme of the last two albums and at the same time, hints clearly at what is about to follow. The new songs have more guitars including the electric, soft and fast as well. With the latest release, the boys have proved that instead of the Backstreet Boys, they have more of the Jonas Brothers genes in their music. This time, they have done the job with lyrics to a dozen of songs written by the band members. As one expects, the songs incorporate ideas such as love, emotions and staying out late etc.
The last two albums from the band reached the top spots on the charts in the same week they were released, which makes the band the second British male band to do so. Now, “Best Song Ever” and “Story of My Life” are enjoying quite a position in the charts and they do hint at the success the album will have soon in the holiday season.
- Best Song Ever:
As soon as you listen to the song, you know that it is going to be on the charts. Since the lead singles from the last two albums enjoyed the same success, so history repeats itself, twice in two years. The composition and the style of the acoustics makes you feel like the song has something to do with its counterparts in the last two albums and of course, the “oh oh oh” is the real bliss, even giving goose bumps (to loyal fans only)!
- Story of My Life:
It has the same place on this album as the “Little Things” had on the last one. The same soft acoustics and the wonderful lyrics from all the band members surely deserve applause.
Here is where the band swiftly, but softly, changes from pop to a rock-pop genre. This song is a masterpiece that fans can present to their parents as well and it is hoped they will also love it.
- Midnight Memories:
Of course, rock is the genre that One Direction seems to love the most and it is clearly reflected in “Midnight Memories”.
- You and I:
This single makes you feel like engaging in a slow dance and it actually captivates you!
- Don’t Forget Where You Belong:
A “Don’t Forget Where You Belong” coming from youthful “adult” boys certainly needs some improvement, not in the music or composition, but in the ideas only. As for other things, they are actually touching!
Yeah, all the boys do this song at least once. Not bad, but not good enough to be in your list for the third time!
This song has the magnificent chorus that just makes you think why is it not one of the lead songs. It can certainly be anyone’s favorite anytime! Great work by the boys.
- Right Now:
Tracks of this sort are what make One Direction popular among the elder audience!
- Little Black Dress:
Accompanied with a lot of guitars, it is a live recording that has received quite positive feedback. The boys should keep working on this approach!
- Through The Dark:
Just like “Happily” this is the sort of song that one wants to listen to again and again.
- Something Great:
This one got a lot of help from Gary Lightbody and the influence of the assistance is quite visible!
- Little White Lies:
This one makes a return to the original genre of the album along with a lot of candy effects!
- Better Than Words:
It’s like at the end of the book where the author apologizes for any mistakes so the boys say that expressing the love in words is not the right thing. The song is great and they made it their way!
