Where do we start with Sir Elton John? The iconic ‘Piano Man’, what’s not to love? He writes, he sings and ultimately he has been delivering excellence for over five decades. Born Reginald Kenneth Dwight this English singer-songwriter, pianist and record producer has made a staggering 30 albums, all of which have been hugely successful. What is even more impressive is that he has been with the same song writer partner, Bernie Taupin, since 1967.
During his five decades of music making and entertaining his fans Elton John has sold over 300 million records. He has also snagged a staggering fifty Top 40 hits, with an impressive seven consecutive No. 1 albums on the US Billboard charts. His biggest selling single to date is that of “Something About the Way You Look Tonight”/”Candle in the Wind 1997″ and this alone sold over 33 million copies globally.
Sir Elton John is a showman and people do go to his live shows just to find out what he would be wearing. He is a craftsman and an expert at work when he performs live. The audience can sit the whole day long without moving a muscle and will not miss a minute of his act. However, there is more to the man than simply selling vast amounts of records. We all seem to love Elton John and why is this so? Well the first reason obviously is because the man can write catchy songs and is an ‘actual musician’; he can play the piano, and does so live with great gusto. He is not manufactured in any way, his music is raw and from the heart, he plays what he believes in and that is why he is adored the world over. He also writes fantastically toe tapping tunes that want you to sing along with him, that’s the mark of an excellent song writer, not many can do that and do so consistently for more than fifty years.
His songs ultimately sound better when he performs them live, especially with a full band or orchestra. It appears that this is how they are meant to be heard. He is after all the ultimate showman. Not many people can accomplish that today, there are very few who write their own songs, then perform them alone and then do so better when live. Many of today’s pop creations are solely manufactured for looks alone, yes they might sound fantastic in the studio, all thanks to the modern wonders of technology but sadly the same sound is not reproduced live, well not without a full backing group and weird and wonderful stage tricks and pyrotechnics to keep you amused and distracted, Elton needs none of this. He simply sits on stage and plays his piano and you are totally submerged into his musical world.
While we are on the subject of showmanship, Elton is a showman and people do go to his live shows to see what he will be wearing. He usually sparkles from head to toe. Then we also have the hats to contend with as well as the big glasses, you just never know who he will appear on stage as and this is part of the chemistry that draws you in.
We all love Elton as he writes songs that you can sing along with, they make you feel good at the end of the day and that is what a good song should do, they cheer you up and so does he.
Do not miss the chance to witness Sir Elton John’s magnificence and grab tickets for his concerts now.
