Chicago Bears

Brief History:

In the September of 1920, George Halas, a prominent player of ball at University of Illinois was representing his team, the Decatur Staley's, at a meeting where NFL was formed. The Decatur Staley's was formed in 1919 by A.E. Staley Company. The team played the 1920 season but in 1921, it became impossible for Staley to support the team financially, so he moved the team to Chicago and it became Chicago Staley's in 1921. In 1922 George Halas came up with the idea of renaming the team to Chicago Bears and hence the Chicago Bears was formed. Halas personally put in a lot of effort to scout the players and he himself took part in the game as well.

In 1950's there were many brawling players in the Bears. These included Ed Sprinkle and Harlon Hill but still the team did not win any championship. It was not before 1963 that the Bears were able to win an NFL championship again after 1946. After 1963 the team went through a downfall and there was no major play by the game until 1977. The decade of 70's was the worst in the history of the Bears and it was a complete dismal. The bad time continued for them in the early 80's as well. In 1985, however, they shocked everyone by once again winning the championship.

Past Achievements:

Ever since the team was formed in 1920s, the Chicago Bears have seen many ups and downs in the game. Still, the team was able to pick some great achievements. Their achievements include:

NFL Championships (Nine):
Chicago Bears have won the NFL Championship nine times. They won the title for the first time in 1921. Then in 1932, they won the title again and they kept winning it for nine times with their most recent championship in 1985. This is their great achievement. This also makes the team consistent in their performance.

Conference Championships (Three)

Division Championships (Fifteen)

Apart from this the players also hold different records for their team. Patrick Mannelly holds the record of a Bear’s uniform with number 15 for many seasons. Placekicker Kevin Butler holds the record of making most points in his short period of ten years. He was able to score 1166 points as the Bear kicker. Mark Bortz holds the record of most playoff. There are many other players who hold the record for many categories.

So the team has also a nice record of its players.
